March 22, The Panther Baseball team opened their season at home with the Winterboro Bulldogs. This was an important area game in which the panthers unfortunatly lost in a hard fought 9-8 battle. There were some bright spots though, Sophomore Nick Fables went 4 for 4 and Senior Chad Gibbons batted 4 for 4 also. The panthers next play at Ranburne in a double-header on Tuesday March 27, stay tuned for updates. April 9, The Panthers defeated the Randolph County Tigers 12-8 for their first win of the year.
April 12, Clay County went on the road and picked up a win against a team that they had already lost to once this season. They beat the Winterboro Bulldogs 10-1 in their best outing of the season. April 23, The panthers ended the 2001 campaign on a tough note losing to Ranburne 10-1. Clay County finished with a 4-7 record. This was one of the toughest years the panthers have had in a while. They were a young team with a serious lack of pitching, but next year they are expected to get their ace Justin Howard back and the panthers should be a force in the next few seasons, espically when they make the drop to 1-A. |
