The Lady Panther Softball team had a great season, making post-season play and making the tournament in Oxford before bowing out to arch-rival Lineville who eventually went on and made the Final Four in the State Semi-Final round. The team was comprised mostly of Freshman and Sophomores so they should be solid for the next few years and we appear to have a good future in store for all Lady Panther Sports!

Jr. High Lady Panthers win Tri-County Title!!!!

The Clay County High Jr. High Girls B-ball team won the Tri-County Tournament, which was held at Ashland on Feb. 3,2001. Only in the second year of existence the Jr. High CCHS Panthers completed a near perfect 10-1 season. They opened up the season, blowing out Bibb Graves 41-10. Misti Alexander had 15 points and 5 rebounds, Paige Cotney and Ashley Davidson had 8 points each. Hollon McKay had 6 points 8 rebounds. The second game they slid past Woodland's lady Bobcats 23-22, a game in which Misti Alexander led the attack with 8 points. Hollon McKay, had 7 points and 11 boards, and Amber Hughes had 6 points also. Then they went to Wadley and defeated them by a football type score of 16-14. Tiffany Lovelady led the scoring with 6 points. The streak rolled as they defeated arch-rival LHS 21-11. Amber Hughes led scoring in that game with 11 points and 11 boards. The only loss came to Woodland 30-26, a game in which none of the starters played, it was all 2nd teamers and Tiesha Chappell led with 5 rebounds. Once again they pounded Bibb Graves, this time it was 36-20 with Alexander and Hughes collecting 8 points each. Chappell and Hollon McKay added 6 points each. Next up Wadley again, and once again a low scoring affair but this team they won with some breathing room, 26-21. Alexander led the way with 8 points and Cotney and Lovelady added 6 points each as well. And there she is again leading the rebounding, Hollon McKay with 10 boards. They kept on rollin with a 27-21 win over Mellow Valley, Cotney led the charge with 8 points. And Hollon Mckay led the rebounding attack yet again with a personal high 16 boards. Their regular season came to a close with a 25-15 over Lineville. Alexander led with 7 points and Davidson contributed with 5 of her own. This earned them a #1 seed in the Tri-County Tournament. Mellow Valley upset Woodland in game 1 and Clay County beat Lineville, yet again, and this time 33-14. Alexander led the final beating of their cross county rival with 7 points as Hughes and Mckay had 8 boards a peice. CCHS defeated Mellow Valley 39-20 to win the title. Amber Hughes looked like Kevin Garnett out there with 13 points and 20 boards, Alexander got 9 and Paige Cotney wasnt too shabby either with 7 points of her own. And Hollon Mckay racked up 14 more boards to her already impressive total. The six freshman that will be moving up to Varsity next season are: Misti Alexander, Paige Cotney, Amber Hughes, Tiffany Lovelady, Sharonda Hunter, Meggie Horn, and Hollon McKay. The team was coached by Anthony Wilkinson and Felix Ackles.

Our Lady Panthers had another tough year, but with a new coach and lots of young talent they should soon be making some noise in 2A. they lose no one off this years team and will have only 2 seniors next season. So stay tuned for updates as they come.

Congratulations once again go out to our Jr. High Lady Panthers Basketball team, they won the county championship and lost only once this season. It appears as though our ladies basketball program has a good future!
